Each year Florida Gulf Coast University selects a book for each of their incoming freshman to read as a way to help prepare them for their college experience. For 2011, that book is Life Safari.
The more than 2,100 students will read Life Safari over the summer and then spend part of their first four weeks in college writing about their experience with the book.
I’ve been asked to speak to the students at the mid-point of their four weeks.
Having the book selected is the realization of something I’ve been hoping for for a long time. It’s an opportunity for college students to get clear on their Big Five for Life before they are in the depths of their college experience. This way they can structure their focus and courses around what really intrigues them.
You can read an interview I did with the FGCU newspaper as a prelude to the speaking event.
